The Phantom of the Opera will open the Ashland Community and Technical College 2012-13 Theatre Season. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 18 to 20 and Oct. 25 to 27, at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays, Oct. 21 and 28, at 2:30 p.m.
The Tony Award winning musical has captivated audiences worldwide with its story of the masked figure lurking in the catacombs of the Paris Opera House and his efforts to make a young soprano a star. The longest running show in Broadway history, Phantom has be seen by over 100 million people in 144 cities in 27 countries.
The Phantom of the Opera features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and a book by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The score includes ‘Think of Me,’ ‘Angel of Music,’ ‘Music of the Night,’ ‘All I Ask of You,’ ‘Masquerade’ and the title song.
The cast includes Bill Hannah, a Shawnee State University System Administrator from Raceland, as “The Phantom” and Kathryn Davis, an Ashland attorney, as” Christine,” the Phantom’s love interest. Lauren Curnutte, a Morehead State University student from Raceland, is” Carlotta,” and Blaine Roberts, a Raceland-Worthington High School senior from Greenup, is “Raoul.”
ACTC students in the cast are Rebecca J. Akers, Ashland; Kelsey E. Boggs, Ashland; Zachary T. Davis, Huntington; Shaela D. Scaggs, Worthington; and Kaitlyn R. Steele, Ashland. ACTC graduates and Tri-State area adults, high school and university students round out the cast.
Professor Edward Figgins, ACTC Director of Theatre, is the director and scenic/lighting designer. Karen L. Curnutte, ACTC Musical Theatre Director, handles the vocals, and Eric Akers, ACTC Musical Theatre Conductor, directs the orchestra. Yvonne DeKay Sinnott is the choreographer.
Performances are in the J. B. Sowards Theatre at ACTC’s College Drive Campus in Ashland.
Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be reserved with a major credit card through the college bookstore, 606-326-2014. Unsold tickets will available at the door before each performance, for cash or check (with photo ID) payment only.
