Annual Theatre Awards Were Presented May 24

The 21st annual ACTC Theatre/Drama Club banquet on May 24 included ACTC Theatre Awards for the 2013-14 season. The awards recognized area students and residents for their contributions to the theatre program.

The Best New Actor was Troy P. Combs III, an ACTC student from Grayson who also won the Best ACTC Student Actor in a Major Role Award.  The Best New Actress was Sydnie Earl, a Boyd County High School student, and the Best ACTC Student Actress in a Major Role Award went to Morgan Casto, a duel enrolled ACTC and Russell High School student from Russell.

Awards for Best Community Actor and Actress in a Major Role went to Ironton resident Mark Baker and Worthington resident Nancy Jackson.

Awards for Best Student Actor and Actress in a Minor Role went to Gabby Thompson from Boyd County High School for dual male and female roles and to Maya McKenzie from Paul G. Blazer High School. Best Community Actor and Actress in a Minor Role Awards went to Kenny Harbolt from Ironton and Lauren Curnutte from Raceland.

Best ACTC Student Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role were Austin Cross and Jessica English, both from Ashland. Best Community Actor in a Supporting Role was Chris Keeton from Ashland. Best Community Actress in a Supporting Role was a tie between Allison Davis from Catlettsburg and Karen Curnutte from Raceland.

Several special awards recognized service and support of ACTC Theatre.

The Outstanding ACTC Staff Volunteer was Judy Pennington, Cashier and Box Office Manager.

The Outstanding ACTC Faculty Volunteer was Dr. Carol Greene, Professor and Chair of the Humanities Division                                                                                                     

Honorary Director Awards went to Karen Curnutte, Boyd County School System Publicity Director and co-director of Romeo and Juliet, and Cristy Smith, ACTC Humanities Division Adjunct Faculty and co-director of A Christmas Carol. The Outstanding Choreographer Award went to Yvonne DeKay Sinnott, owner of Yvonne DeKay School of Dance in Ironton.

The Honorary Benefactor Award went to the late Nancy McClellan, an Ashland resident and retired ACTC Humanities Professor.

J. B. Sowards Founders’ Awards went to Greenup resident Don Roberts for Extraordinary Service in Scenery Construction, and Ashland resident Barbara Caudill for Extraordinary Service in the Costume Shop.
