Advising Checksheet

Step 1 - Complete the Online Application.

Readmit, transfer, and new students all need to complete an application. (Visit http://ashland.kctcs.edu/Admissions/Apply_Online/)

After submitting the online application write down the 9 digit student ID number displayed.  You will need the number to complete Steps 5 and 6.

Step 2 - Request your official high school transcripts or GED.

Your high school must mail these documents to:

Ashland Community and Technical College
Attn: Registrar
1400 College Drive
Ashland, KY 41101

GED recipients may request transcript copies at the following link if the test was taken in Kentucky:
http://kyae.ky.gov/nr/rdonlyres/10e083b0-bf5b-4416-bc8b-17c1ad3dbd4d/0/12requestingtranscripts.pdf

Step 3 - Request your official college/postsecondary school transcript(s)

If you have ever attended another college or postsecondary institution you must submit an official transcript from each institution.  Electronic transcripts for many colleges and universities can be requested from the National Student Clearinghouse (http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/).

Step 4 - Complete the financial aid form online.

Even if you don't think you qualify or you don't want a loan, you should still submit a financial aid application. The financial aid form is also needed for most grants and scholarships. (Visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

You will need the ACTC School code to complete the financial aid form: 001990.

Step 5 - Take the College Entrance Exam (COMPASS).

The Compass placement exam, a test similar to the ACT admissions exam but designed for junior and two-year colleges, is given through the Internet on a computer. All entering students are required to take Compass unless they have the requisite ACT scores. (ACT test score placements)

Schedule an appointment for the COMPASS placement test if your ACT
scores are below 20 in Reading, below 18 in English or below 19 in Math in the Advising Center at the following campuses:

Note: Have your student ID # ready before calling!
College Drive Campus - (606) 326-2228
Technology Drive Campus - (606) 326-2040

Developmental courses are offered for students who need assistance in English, Mathematics, and Reading to help students progress toward academic goals.

Students can raise their COMPASS scores by working with our Adult Education staff. Find out more about our Adult Education Program.
