Bridges Photography Competition

At ACTC, we know that bridges are important in our daily lives.  Physical bridges allow us to move from one state to the other and allow us to work, shop and live in a true tri-state area.  Bridges also are formed in less concrete parts of life.  An education at ACTC is a bridge to a better life for our students, to workforce training for area businesses and industries, and to educational, cultural and economic development for our communities.

In acknowledgment of the bridge as a symbol of the importance of bridges in our lives, ACTC is holding it’s first photo contest dedicated to the bridge as a symbol of togetherness, prosperity, and opportunity.   The purpose of the contest is to find photos of bridges in the ACTC service area that can be used in college publications.

CONTEST RULES 

  • Bridges must be in ACTC’s service area:  KY counties - Boyd, Carter, Elliott Greenup, Lawrence; OH counties - Adams, Athens, Gallia, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Pike, Scioto, Vinton; WV counties - Cabell, Mingo, Wayne ·      Bridges may be for any kind of land vehicles, trains or foot traffic. 
  • The bridge should be the main subject of the photo. Traffic on (or under) the bridge is acceptable.
  • Photographs must have been taken between January 1, 2009 and April 15, 2010. 
  • Photos must be the original work by current students or employees of ACTC.  The photos cannot have been previously published or won any other awards.  Submission of photos taken by other people or copied from the web is not acceptable and will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Photos may be submitted in four categories:
    1. One lane or covered bridge for cars/trucks
    2. Two-lane bridge for cars/trucks
    3. Four-lane bridge for cars/trucks
    4. Miscellaneous – train bridge, foot bridge or other 
  • Photos must be in color.
  • Photos must be digital.  Photos taken with an SLR or other camera must be converted to digital format before submission.  Each digital image should be no longer than 800 pixels on the longest side and should be saved as Jpeg (.jpg) in RGB format, with the file size not to exceed 4MB. Minor color correction and cropping are allowed.  Any other changes to the original photograph are unacceptable.
  • There is no limit to the number of photos that each person can submit.  

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded for each category and there will also be a Publisher’s Choice Award. Judging will be based on clarity of the image and artistic composition of the photo.  

HOW TO SUBMIT ENTRIES

  • Entries must be submitted digitally on a CD or USB Flash Drive. All entries by the same person can be placed on the same CD or Flash Drive. The CD or Flash Drive must have the entrant’s name, and each photo on the disk must be labeled with the entrant’s name and the name and location of the bridge. Upon submission, the CD, USB Flash Drive and all contents become property of ACTC. 
  • Each entrant must sign and date an official release form that states (A) that the photo(s) submitted is the original work of the entrant and (B) that the college has permission to use the photo(s )at it’s discretion. 
  • For each photo entered, an official entry sheet must be submitted. The entry package containing CD or Flash Drive, release form, and entry forms for each photo should be addressed to ACTC Public Relations Photo Contest, attn: Gayle Fritz.  The package can be brought to the PR office in Room 420F at College Drive, the Business Office in Room 102 at Roberts Drive, or to Elvona Wilson in Room 179 or Cheryl Parsons in Room 106 at Technology Drive.

CONTEST DEADLINE

Deadline for entries is April 15, 2010. Late entries will not be accepted.
