Black History Month
The original observance for Black history began as
Negro
History Week in 1926 through a major effort by Dr.
Carter G. Woodson. It was in 1976 when the United
States devoted an entire month to commemorating Black
History. Black History Month is also called African
American History month, but it is acceptable to use
either one.
