Ideas for Keeping Cool and Staying Safe

It looks like staying cool this summer is going to be especially difficult.  Here are some ideas for keeping cool and staying safe in the hot, summer sun.

  • DRINK WATER and plenty of it.  Many sugary drinks only make you more susceptible to dehydration.  Drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated.
  • Take a Break.  If you are going to be outside or in high heat areas for extended periods of time, you will need to remove yourself from the heat...The best place for a break is in the shade.
  • Wear light-colored clothing
  • Use the Grill.  Cooking indoors heats up the house; Cook outside to keep a pleasant temperature indoors.
  • Be Careful Swimming.  Many people don't realize that you can become dehydrated while swimming.  Be aware of how long you have been in the pool and take breaks out of the water to take in hydrating liquids.
