III. NEW BUSINESS
A. United Way – Carolyn Gross introduced Sandy Brown from Two Hearts Pregnancy Center to speak about their involvement in United Way.
Sandy invited us to visit the Two Hearts Center and explained that it was a ministry to women in unplanned pregnancies. The only real requirements for using their services in you “have to be pregnant.” She described the services they offer and talked about how people can earn “baby bucks” through counseling with which they can use to buy things from the Bundles of Joy room. Last year they had 342 clients. This year they project going over 400 as they have already helped 285. The clients range in age from 12 to 49 with the most popular age being 15-19. This service helps provide an alternative to abortion. United Way helps the Center and their largest support comes from the community. They do not accept Federal money. The Center started in 2000 and it covers 5 counties and they’re trying to start one in Pike County. She explained that with United Way, you can designate money to your choice of charity.
United Way Promotional Video was shown.
Carolyn Gross spoke about United Way. They have set a goal of $11,000 with the theme “Around the Racetrack.” The Team Captain is the “Race Car Driver” and the members of the team are the “pit crew.” There is a 100% Participation Goal. Last year we raised $10,856. Team Captains will be contacting each member. The start date is 10/16/2006 and it will last “15 days – 15 laps.”
