Diversity: Celebrate, Teach, Preserve

October 22 & 23, 2009

"We are of course a nation of differences. Those differences don't make us weak. They're the source of our strength."
-President Jimmy Carter

Welcome Friends and Colleagues

Ashland Community and Technical College's 2009 Teaching/Learning Conference is devoted to Diversity: Celebrate, Teach, Preserve.  Diversity is a key component of the mission of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and each of its member institutions, and it is nothing less than the principle on which serve our present and future population.  We want to strongly encourage our "sister" colleges, our community and other partners to join us this year as we explore important themes in diversity.

We want to celebrate diversity: to see the value and worth of all people and take joy in our unique contributions, traits and talents.  We want to teach diversity: to understand that it is our responsibility to teach the values and importance of diversity in order to promote harmony, as well as the beauty and strength of our differences.  Moreover, we wish to preserve diversity: that by fostering an atmosphere of respect for each other, we create an inclusive environment that allows us to express and maintain the special nature of our respective origins.

Please join us for the 2009 Teaching/Learning Conference for the opportunity to examine how we turn the failures of our past into the strength of our future.
